On The Warpath

Kerouac went on the road,
Capone went on the lam,
And I went on the warpath.

All the women Jack seduced
And all the crimes Al produced
Don’t mean a god damn thing to the Warpath.

But what is the Warpath?
And what kind of person goes down that sharp, twisted road?

When you’re down and out
and heartbroken
and drunk
(especially drunk)*
yet too lazy to leave your home behind
and too timid to lead a life of crime
then you find yourself
on the warpath
and whether you like it or not
you’re just as bad as Jack and Al
even though you’ll never be as famous.

*(For Stephen Campbell, my Little Warpath)
